JVC Announces New Price on GY-HD200 Series Camera

JVC's 200 Series ProHD camcorders have taken a leading position in the broadcast industry's transition to HD programming. Most notably, the GY-HD250 has taken a predominant role in ENG and studio applications. The GY-HD200, has provided a more economical alternative to producers wanting the same imaging quality as the 250, but not needing all of its features.
JVC is pleased to announce that we are now widening the market reach of the GY-HD200 with a major price repositioning. The new pricing makes the GY-HD200 an affordable step up from the GY-HD110, rather than a minor step down from the GY-HD250. Now, virtually everyone can take advantage of the advanced performance of the 200 series made possible by the Super Encoder (60p recording), superior 14-bit A/D converter, and wide band front end.

AValive Ships Newtek Tricaster Studio

AValive and NewTek Ships TriCaster STUDIO™

Breakthrough technology includes live, multi-channel virtual sets
with unprecedented realism for broadcast and web stream producers

Wilmington, NC – August 15, 2007 -- AValive an authorized Newtek Tricaster Dealer and NewTek, Inc., manufacturer of industry-leading video and 3D animation products, today announced the shipment of TriCaster STUDIO™, a turnkey portable, live production and virtual set system which provides a whole new level of capability to video and live event producers. The combination of portability and ease of set-up with the extensive live production capabilities of TriCaster STUDIO allows video producers to broadcast and web stream events and content at levels previously considered prohibitive.

"TriCaster makes it easy to produce, without the expense of a full truck and crew. And it gives fans the chance to see games they wouldn't see otherwise," says Clark Pierce, Fox Sports VP of Emerging Technology. "TriCaster will let us produce remote broadcasts where it normally wouldn't be fiscally viable."

TriCaster STUDIO provides all of the capabilities of a live remote production truck including: component video, balanced audio, 6 video inputs and advanced switching features, live virtual sets, multiple upstream effects, dual virtual VCR's and more in a 16lb, low impact footprint. TriCaster STUDIO makes it possible to cover live events and broadcast or stream from locations where the use of remote truck facilities are not feasible.

Virtual Sets
The proprietary virtual set system in TriCaster STUDIO, LiveSet™ allows separate virtual sets to be assigned independently to all 6 camera inputs and the dual integrated VCR's. In addition, each input has an independent LiveMatte™ module eliminating the need for expensive hardware for each source to be connected to the system. Each virtual set supports virtual cameras with multiple angles and zoom levels with support for secondary video sources such as reflections, refractions and bump maps.

"With TriCaster STUDIO we have introduced LiveSet™, a truly revolutionary technology that allows us to implement multi-channel virtual sets with unprecedented realism and video quality," said Andrew Cross, NewTek Sr. VP of Software Engineering. "This proprietary technology integrated into a live production environment fundamentally changes the tools available to anyone producing video."

Pricing and Availability
TriCaster STUDIO in NTSC is available in North America for $9,995 US. TriCaster STUDIO is available in dual standard internationally for $11,995 US. For more information, please visit http://www.avalive.com/Newtek/65/0/productList.php or call AValive Sales at 1-877-550-HDTV

Apple and AValive Announce New IMACS

August 07, 2007 (AValive) -- Apple today announced its IMac desktop line, dropping the 17 inch model with the smallest screen, cutting the price of the top-end system, and changing the design for a thinner, trimmer look.

In an event held at Apple's Cupertino, CA., headquarters, CEO Steve Jobs introduced three new iMacs -- two with 20-in. LCD screens, the third boasting a 24-in. monitor -- priced between $1,199 and $1,799. All are available immediately in Apple's retail stores and at the company's Web site.

The new entry-level iMac, now priced $200 above the previous least expensive model and includes a 20-in. screen, a 2.0-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 1GB of memory and a 250GB hard drive. The $1,499 middle model, which also has a 20-in. screen, features a 320GB drive, a 2.4-GHz processor and a faster ATI graphics card. At the top of the lineup, the 24-in. iMac, which sells for $200 less than the previous top-end model, contains the same innards as the $1,499 model but features a larger screen.

Apple Final Cut Pro Supports Panasonic AG-HSC1U AGHSC1U AVCHD Format

Apple Mac PRO Now Supports Panasonic AVCHD Format

After months of waiting, users of those tiny new AVCHD high-definition camcorders from Sony and Panasonic now have a reliable and robust post-production option for Apple’s Mac platform.

Apple has released an update to Final Cut Pro (version 6.0.1) that transcodes AVCHD video for use in FCP. The company’s new version ingests AVCHD in Final Cut’s Log and Transfer window as either Apple ProRes 422 or Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC).

There are, however, some tradeoffs. Although AVCHD camcorders may be tiny, the files created after transcoding are not. Because AVCHD has a much higher compression ratio than its ProRes 422 codec, the ingested files are significantly larger than the original files.

How much bigger? How about ten times! Apple said a two-minute native AVCHD file takes up about 200 MB of space. After transcoding to the Apple ProRes 422 codec, the file size can be as large as 2 GB. Since FCP does not estimate the size of a transcoded AVCHD file before ingesting, it is entirely possible to exceed the available space on your capture disk during transfer.

Another new option for Mac users is Voltaic, a $30 standalone application that converts AVCHD clips to a QuickTime-formatted movie using AIC. Converted files can be edited in both Final Cut or iMovie HD. Output files are four times the size of the ingested file.

One caveat is that Voltaic, in version 1.0, can only handle file sizes up to 500 MB, which means clips are limited to five minutes in duration at the highest quality.
